Costas Gavras was born in Loutra – Ireas, Arcadia, in 1933. He studied literature at Sorbonne and film at the IDHEC Institute. In cinema he has gifted us creations that know no borders. His films managed to give him the title of a specialist in political cinema and to include him to the top creators of political cinema.
His first full film, “Compartiment tueurs”, was presented in 1965. His film, “Z”, won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film and the Academy Award for Best Film Editing in 1970.
His film “Missing” won the Golden Palm Award at the Cannes Film Festival. His films include: “State of Siege”, “Music Box” (Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival, 1990), Amen. (2002, Cesar Award for Best Original Screenplay), “The Ax”, “Hanna K.”, “Mad City “,”Woman light”,” The Confessiony “,”Eden is West “,”le capital” and others.

Costas Gavras and co-writer Jorge Semprun won an Edgar Award from the Mystery Writers of America for Best Film Screenplay.
